Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School
Music & Sensory Labs — Spaces Designed to Be Heard, Felt and Explored
The Brief
At Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School, learning extends well beyond the traditional classroom.
The brief for the Music and Sensory Labs was to create specialised environments where young learners could listen, touch, experiment, create and express themselves — turning the space itself into part of the learning experience.
These were not conventional activity rooms.
They needed to be immersive, engaging and age-appropriate, while being practical enough to support structured lessons as well as open-ended exploration.
What They Needed
Dedicated environments for music, sensory exploration and creative learning
Furniture and activity elements designed specifically for young learners
Spaces that encourage independent exploration as well as guided activities
Durable, child-friendly materials suitable for an active school environment
A cohesive design language aligned with the premium NMA Junior School campus
Purpose-Built Spaces for Learning Through the Senses
Popcorn Furniture designed and executed the Music and Sensory Labs as interactive learning environments rather than conventional rooms.
Every element was considered in relation to how children would move through, interact with and experience the space.
The result is a pair of specialised environments that combine functionality with a strong visual identity — creating spaces where learning happens through sound, movement, touch and experimentation.
Where Sound Becomes Part of the Space
The Music Lab was designed as an environment that encourages young learners to engage with music through exploration and interaction.
Purpose-built furniture and spatial elements create dedicated areas for instruments, activities and group sessions, allowing children to move between structured learning and creative experimentation.
The space is designed to make music feel accessible, physical and playful — encouraging children to discover rhythm, sound and expression rather than simply observe them.
A Space Designed to Be Felt
The Sensory Lab takes a different approach to learning.
Textures, forms, colours and interactive elements create opportunities for children to explore through their senses and develop awareness through hands-on experiences.
The environment encourages children to touch, manipulate, observe and discover, making the physical surroundings an active part of the learning process.
Rather than filling the room with conventional furniture, Popcorn created an environment where the furniture and activity elements work together to support sensory engagement.

Designed Around the Learner
The Music and Sensory Labs reflect a larger principle behind the NMA Junior School project: young children learn differently when they are given the freedom to interact with their environment.
The spaces were therefore designed to support different modes of engagement — from individual exploration to guided activity and group learning.
Every detail contributes to that experience, creating specialised environments that feel distinctly different from the traditional classroom while remaining part of the larger school's design language.
The Result
The Music and Sensory Labs are more than specialised rooms.
They are immersive learning environments designed around how young children experience the world — through sound, touch, movement, colour and curiosity.
At Nita Mukesh Ambani Junior School, Popcorn Furniture helped transform functional spaces into environments that invite children to listen, explore, experiment and discover.
