RP Goenka International School — Indoor Adventure Play Zone
An indoor play zone that keeps young learners active, whatever the weather
RP Goenka International School wanted an indoor gross-motor play area for its early-years students — one that didn't depend on Calcutta's monsoons or peak-summer heat to keep children moving, climbing and exploring.
The brief went beyond a play structure: the school needed a fully engineered activity zone that balanced open-ended, imaginative play with strict safety and material standards for a school environment.
What they needed
- A dedicated indoor space for physical, sensory and imaginative play
- Climbing, balance and obstacle elements suited to ages 3–8
- Shock-absorbent, slip-resistant flooring throughout the zone
- Furniture and structures built and certified to institutional safety norms
A custom-built adventure zone, designed and installed in-house
Popcorn Furniture designed a themed indoor play landscape combining timber climbing frames, an elevated rope-and-ladder course, and a colour-coded activity trail — all manufactured in-house to BIS safety standards and finished with rounded edges and non-toxic coatings suited to young children.
What went into the space
- Climbing structures — multi-level timber frames with safety railings
- Obstacle & balance course — ramps, stepping blocks and rope elements
- Sensory play panels — textured and interactive wall stations
- Impact-safe flooring — cushioned, easy-clean artificial turf and matting
- Colour zoning — activity trails coded by age and skill level
