At a boarding school, the furniture has to do more than serve a classroom.
Students learn, study, rest and spend much of their day within the same campus. That makes the relationship between learning spaces and living spaces particularly important.
At Welham Boys School in Dehradun, Popcorn Furniture worked across both classrooms and hostel spaces, creating furniture solutions designed around the school's established character, everyday student life and long-term durability.
The objective was simple: upgrade the spaces without losing the sense of warmth and familiarity that makes a boarding school feel like home.
The Brief
The school was undertaking an upgrade of its learning environments and needed furniture that could complement the newly renovated interiors while standing up to the demands of a busy residential campus.
The classrooms featured warm acoustic wood panelling, upgraded lighting and contemporary ceiling finishes. The furniture needed to sit naturally within this architecture while providing comfortable, durable seating for long school days.
The hostel spaces had a different requirement — furniture that could withstand everyday residential use while giving students functional spaces to sleep, study, organise and live.

Warm, Understated Furniture for a Renovated Learning Environment
The renovated classrooms called for furniture that complemented the new architectural language rather than competing with it.
Popcorn designed warm-toned tablet-arm desks and chairs, with finishes selected to sit naturally against the classroom's acoustic wood panelling.
The furniture provides students with a comfortable, individual workspace while retaining the flexibility needed within a modern classroom.
The result is an environment that feels contemporary without becoming overly designed — quiet, warm and purposeful.
