BK Birla Schools
When the Corridor Becomes Part of the Learning Experience
A school corridor is usually a space students simply pass through.
At BK Birla Schools, Popcorn Furniture looked at it differently.
For the early-years campus, the corridor became an opportunity to create another layer of the learning environment — a space that could engage children between lessons, spark curiosity and make the everyday journey from one classroom to another part of the school experience.
The brief was to create a cohesive, visually engaging environment that could withstand the constant movement and daily interaction of young learners.
What They Needed
A strong visual concept running throughout the corridor
Interactive elements that encourage children to stop, look and engage
Touch-safe surfaces designed for frequent interaction
Durable materials capable of handling heavy daily footfall
A design language that connects the corridor with the adjoining classrooms
Installation planned around the school's regular teaching schedule
A Hot-Air-Balloon-Themed Learning Walkway
Popcorn Furniture transformed the corridor into a hot-air-balloon-themed learning journey.
Suspended balloon installations, illustrated wall murals and interactive touch panels work together to create an environment that feels playful without becoming disconnected from the school's learning purpose.
The corridor is no longer simply a passage between rooms.
It becomes a space children experience.
Suspended Balloon Installations
Three-dimensional balloon elements add depth and movement to the corridor, creating a playful overhead landscape that immediately captures the attention of young learners.
Illustrated Wall Murals
The walls were transformed into part of the visual story, creating a continuous narrative that gives the corridor its own identity and makes the journey through the space more engaging.
Interactive Learning Panels
Touch-and-learn panels were integrated into the corridor to encourage children to interact with their surroundings and turn moments between lessons into opportunities for informal learning.
Wayfinding Through Design
Themed signage and visual cues were integrated into the overall concept, helping navigation become part of the design rather than an afterthought.
Classroom Continuity
The adjoining classrooms carry elements of the same colour and visual language, allowing the corridor and learning spaces to feel connected rather than like separate environments.
Designed for Everyday School Life
The challenge wasn't simply creating something visually exciting.
The corridor needed to work in a real school environment — with hundreds of young students moving through it every day.
Popcorn therefore focused on durability, safe interaction and practical installation, with the elements engineered for constant contact and daily footfall.
The installation was also coordinated around school hours to minimise disruption to teaching.
From a Passageway to a Learning Environment
The transformation demonstrates a simple idea:
Learning doesn't only happen inside the classroom.
A thoughtfully designed corridor can encourage curiosity, create moments of discovery and contribute to the overall character of a school.
At BK Birla Schools, Popcorn Furniture turned an ordinary circulation space into a playful, interactive and memorable part of the campus.
